Saturday and Sunday markets that aren't just overpriced succulents. Vintage finds, actual good food, community feel.
Let's be honest: the Inner West loves a market. But not all markets are created equal. Some are worth the early wake-up. Others are just Instagram traps selling $15 candles you don't need.
Here's how to tell the difference, and where to actually go.
Saturday Markets
Addison Road Centre — Marrickville
Every Saturday, 8am-2pm. Free entry, free parking.
This is what markets should be. A mix of food, vintage, plants, and that random stall selling something you didn't know you needed. The organic produce section is genuinely good, not just expensive. The coffee queue moves fast.
What to get: Fresh pasta from the Italian stall, whatever's in season at the produce stands, and a coffee from the place with the long queue.
Skip: The "artisan" donuts. They're just donuts.
Sunday Markets
Orange Grove — Leichhardt
Every Sunday, 8am-1pm. Free entry, parking's a nightmare.
Organic everything. You'll find better produce here than most grocery stores, and the prices aren't obscene. The breakfast options are solid — go early before the queues build.
What to get: Organic veg, sourdough from the bread guys, breakfast from the stall with the longest line.
Tip: Get there before 9am for parking. After that, good luck.
Balmain Markets
Every Sunday, 7:30am-4pm. Gold coin entry.
Old school. A bit more "crafty" than some, but the community feel is genuine. Good for kids, good for a wander, good for a cheap breakfast if you find the right stall.
Special Mentions
Finders Keepers — When it's on
Quarterly, usually at the Cutaway. Yes, it's crowded. Yes, it's worth it. Actual designers selling actual designs, not mass-produced "handmade" stuff.
Glebe Markets — Saturdays
Technically not Inner West, but close enough. Best vintage in Sydney, full stop. Go for second-hand clothes, stay for the people watching.
What to Skip
Any market where every stall is selling the same thing you could buy at Kmart for $5. If it feels manufactured, it probably is.
Markets that are just food trucks in a field. That's not a market, that's a food court with grass.
Market Survival Tips
